[SOC] Shock, horror, scandal!

I mean this. As a kid [circa around 1950's/60's - I could be wrong] I am 
now utterly disappointed by this news:

"Disassembly complete: Heathkit is no more"

I can go back to the olden days, in Australia, allowing for freight, 
exchange rates, I was NEVER a chance for a HEATHKIT. Far too expensive 
for my pocket-money [hard self-earned] budget as a young teenager.

As a kid I read my Dad's [VK2ARP - SK] QST and other many other 
publications. Between end of WW11 and his continued service in the 
Korean campaign.

Even in the late 1970's when, I then ran a vibrant electronics business 
here, and likely right up-myself, compared to HeathKit? I didn't buy one 
kit.

Being more educated by the late 1970's? Heathkit done the business for 
all purchasers, irrespective of my opinions.

Irrespective of those opinions?

This is disturbing news:

"ST. JOSEPH — The remnants of a once-proud company with a long history 
in the Twin Cities are now on the auction block.

Owner Don Desrochers confirmed this week that Heathkit is dead.

Last known as Heathkit Educational Systems, the company that once 
employed hundreds of people has closed after defaulting on a lease at 
2024 Hawthorne Ave. in St. Joseph Township. The work force at the end 
was a half-dozen....
