I live in a neighborhood with some pretty poor forest soil. I use 
fireplace ashes to sweeten the soil, and very seldom a Miracle grow type 
fertilizer. My lawn is greener and happier than most of the neighbors 
who pay some chemical service to mess up their lawns. A few years ago 
some probably recent high school graduate who couldn't make change 
sprayed some yards in the neighborhood with something he should'nt 
oughta had. We're talking dig up the topsoil and take it away type bad.
