No such question on the "gun permit".... in fact there is no such form as a
"gun permit" in most (virtually all) states. If you are referring to
"BATFE's (federal) Form 4473", well that is a transaction record. It does
not have a place to enter a "reason" either.

I *will* refrain from beginning a political discussion about the need or
desirability of the above Federal form .......
