No mate, I'm here remember.

Ironically, or maybe not, the conservative party here is called "Liberal
Party".

The reason being, the party founder having lost government in 1941
during the war and licking his wounds over in London as part of
Churchill's war cabinet, decided to form a whole new party for after the
war.

Robert [later Sir Robert] Menzies quite deliberately chose the name
"Liberal Party" to reflects his ideas and principals. He decided he
would capture 50+% of the middle ground in the post war era. He wanted
nothing to do with the extreme left nor the extreme right.

He finalised his plans by the 1949 election which he won and as a
consequence was Prime Minister for 17 continuous years. His party
continued in office for a further 6 years making the "Liberal Party" the
longest serving government in Australian history. A record unlikely to
be equalled.

So there you go folks, a conservative government with liberal
philosophies! Subsequent to their horrifying defeat in 1972 they have
been back in office twice.

No matter what ratbags may tell you, the differences between the current
Labor [sic] government and the Liberal opposition is only a razor blade
of difference.

Beneath the rhetoric, hype and BS, they're usually just frittering away
around the edges. "We can do things better than you".

From what I've seen and read, neither your Democrat nor your Republican
parties would have a snowball chance in hell in getting elected in
Australia. Both seem to Australians as dysfunctional, unelectable rabble
who can't present cohesive policies to their electorate nor retain any
sense of party discipline.

FWIW: Your system of government and obviously most are happy with it.

Thanks! :) 72/73's
