I've had a lot of girlfriends.  I am married, so I currently only have a
few girlfriends as some of the ones I had are very closed minded.

As for the mortgage, it is still 12% of one income.

You say "I HAD a girlfriend...." "we ARE operating on...."
If you "had" a girlfriend then you "were" operating. If you "are operating"
then you still have the girlfriend.
