Twice.

My mind went back to my old Dad, VK2ARP [SK], a genuine 60 wpm operator 
from the Royal Australian Navy as a 15 year old lad in WW1 and later as 
a telegraphist for our telco PMG etc. plus WW11 and later Korea.

Dad's 60 wpm, in his own words, did NOT single him out in his time, 
merely made him "acceptable".

My Dad had a "Genuine" First Class Operators Certificate from about 
1926. He admitted they collectively "cheated" in the final exam over 
"automatic alarms" [500 Khz] when the oral examiner suffered a heart attack.

Every maritime nation had the equivalent. Every ship I believe, had to 
have a "first class operator" aboard. I can't swear to that though.

So.

To these turkeys [disclosure: my CW is an embarrassment]

Do any of you actually hold your nation's modern equivalent of a 
"Maritime First Class Operators Certificate" or are you just some 
"poseur" mob masquerading as "summink else" again.

Err either your are "ridgy didge" First Class [I, along with many others 
here, have genuine diplomas, certificates, licenses etc. across many 
disciplines, so with our advanced education we're actually dumb enough 
to consider "First Class" as an "Epitome" of academic achievement.]

Well I'm bloody stupid enough to believe that!

So TRUE, I know many bright sparks here - Pun intended.

Erv, wasn't this where we came in 100,000 moons ago? Why rebellious 
infidels formed SOC?

Erv, wasn't this the foundation stone of SOC where the great unwashed 
masses could congregate and assemble in FREEDOM, JUSTICS and a UNIVERSAL 
WAY of...
