As a physics teacher, I would not include Einstein in a list of
mathematicians.  He certainly used math as all of us in physics do, but as a
tool.  An analogy would be the difference between a lumberjack supplying the
raw wood for a fine craftsman to build beautiful pieces of furniture.  Both
deal with wood, one supplies the material and the other uses it for
productive purposes.
