I sold radio stuff at hamfests in mid west.  I sold out of 2000 ft of SILVER colored jacket RG-8 in two hamfests.  The black jacketed wasnt touched.

 

Sold a 3 el yagi to a man who called back to complain he could not "get" EU  and instead got Canada.  Discovered he thot tthe RF went out the ends of the elements (like your water example) so he pointed it so that the ends would point toward EU.

(Dont know if he was using a flat map or a globe either.)
