As a Brit I was aware of the first paragraph. It is very senatorial and

Was not aware of the nasty bits about the King of England. Surely
that's all water under the bridge? It was over 200 years ago for
goodness sake. Time for a re-write?

If one can be "disgruntled," does that mean the rest of us are "gruntled?"
Parts of the DoI referring to the KoE certainly do sound a bit snippy,
but I am quite sure that water was well under the bridge by 1789 when
the US Constitution was drafted [OK, maybe a little lingered upstream of
the bridge until after 1812 :-) ]
The drafting of the US Constitution may have constituted the last moment
in our time when American politicians could write clearly, simply, and
directly.
The US Constitution comprises 7,591 words, if "commander-in-chief" is
counted as one word, and 220 years and only 27 amendments later, it is
still the foundation of the Republic [or at least many of us hope it
still is]. Not too many years ago, an order appeared in the Federal
Register regulating the export of cabbage. It contained 43,359 words
and was unreadable, making the Constitution something akin to a
"Colonial tweet."
Delaware was the first State to ratify the Constitution + the Bill of
Rights. Tomorrow is the Delaware QSO Party, and coincidentally,
Delaware is the only State I'm missing for ARRL Triple Play. I need a
phone QSO, not my best mode, but I'll be trying, with time out for the
North American Sprint. If you're in DE, please listen for my small
signal from the western frontier.
