This is not the case at all. I passed the 20 WPM test 100% copy when I
tested for Advanced (after passing the 13 WPM test). I never got around to
taking the Extra written within the allotted time frames. Life and work kept
me from pursuing Extra. Eventually though.
Unfortunately, email does not relay tongue & cheek comments all that well,
as some missed the extra channel remark.

What I find truly amazing is the increasing interest in CW by no-code ops.
Sure most use the computer, but I have had a few ask me to send CW (morris
code) for them to practice on, mostly on 2M simplex using the DTMF pad on
the microphone. Not sure about others, but I have had more requests to be a
CW elmer since the requirement was dropped than when it was required.
And Berry, I also have my very first CW QSL framed on the wall in my shack.
It was in the Novice portion of 15M. I remember by the end of the hour long
QSO I was covered in sweat and my hand was shaking. But it only got better
from there. I still have the note pads from my early QSO's. It is fun to
look at them and see the progression from writing everything down letter by
letter; to just what was needed and abbreviations for almost everything.
