[SOC] HOW MOSES GOT THE 10 COMMANDMENTS

I guess if this was the 'First Class Operators Club' list, there wouldn't be
jokes like those. A 'First Class Operator' probably wouldn't tell them.
This is the 'Second Class Operators Club' list. Not really sure what the
definition of a Second Class Operator would be. Probably not as PC as a
First Class I'm sure. Maybe a little bit redneck, a little bit
tounge-in-cheek, a little more thick skinned (kinda like me I guess). I
think it just depends on which side of the joke you are on if it's funny or
not. I laugh at some and some piss me off. Nature I guess. 73

When did this forum turn into an opportunity to voice political opinion?
I have limited tolerance for ethnic and other juvenile, stupid jokes that
are far below the standards of what I used to expect from this group; but I
loathe the preaching that inevitably follows even more.
I'm not yet sure if this recent go-round is enough to cause me to quit the
group, but it's damn close.

There is room in the world for non-PC, and offensive jokes.
It's a big help if they are funny though. And that's the problem with jokes
that are offensive. Just putting in some supposed racial or political trait
and making a joke out of it is easy, making it actually amusing to most
people isn't.
And usually what makes it funny is the intent. Can you make people laugh
without making yourself look like a clod?
Let us take an example......
Heaven is where the police are British,
the chefs Italian,
the mechanics German,
the lovers French,
and it's all organized by the Swiss.
Hell is where the police are German,
the chefs are British,
the mechanics French,
the lovers Swiss,
and it is all organized by the Italians.
It uses some pretty obvious stereotypes, and yet comes off as cute for the
most part.
Next we move into the gross realm. This was the arena of all the old "dead
baby" jokes.
What's worse than a truckload of dead babies?
A live one at the bottom eating it's way out.
What's harder to unload, a truckload of dead babies or a truckload of
bowling balls?
A truckload of bowling balls, because you can't stick a pitchfork in a
bowling ball.
Go ask a woman if either of those jokes is funny. You know the answer.
So why do people tell jokes like this? A very large part is to elicit some
sort of response. There is no doubt that KD7JYK was telling the joke to get
some response, made ever more clear by his comment about offending everyone.
So you too play a part in this by saying you're going to leave the list. The
joke tellers can chuckle about how they got someone really pissed off,
enough to leave the list. Problem is eventually if enough people leave the
list, the jokes might continue, but some of the fun has gone out of it for
the teller.
The interesting part is that in the aggregate, the jokes will give a profile
of the teller. If I were to tell lots of jokes here, you would see that I am
firmly in the middle, as I like to tweak all parties. I can enjoy a joke
about a large spectrum of political and ethnic issues. Life is sad, life is
funny.
But what you will find in a large number of jokes like the one under comment
is that there are always significant absences. One simply doesn't find
references to Republicans, right wing Christians or other icons of the far
right. Just an observation, there's a lot of funny stuff going on in that
direction also.
When jokes tend toward one sidedness we can often see how they are fear
based, and this one shows fear to a marked degree. It's fear of subgroup
stereotypes that might kill us, are virile, but they will steal our stuff,
run off with our wives, and to top it off, have great business acumen.
Reminds me of a guy I went to school with. He was Swedish.
In the final analysis, the ancient Pythonian scholars said it best:
"The only thing worse than being witty is not being witty. "
