[SOC] Idiot sightings

A very good friend of mine (now alas SK) was a student teacher doing 
class-experience work in the Dingle in Liverpool UK  (my home town - a 
good place to come from!).  .  The Dingle is down by the south docks, a 
police no-go area, and its inhabitants are a very special breed!   My 
friend was taking the register of new students at the primary school, 
asking one little boy what his name was.  "Gooey" he replied.  OK, my 
friend thought,  knowing that there was a sibling in every class up the 
school.  She asked the boy's sister in the class above, and again came 
the reply "Gooey".  She waited until Teacher/Parent interviews, and 
asked the mother, again - guess what - "Gooey.  I sawr it in a bewk and 
liked it so we called him Gooey".  "So how do you spell it?", my friend 
enquired.  Getting a withering look from the mother, she replied 
"G-U-Y,  Gooey of course".
This is alas, a true story and the incident took place in 1962.  Knowing 
the Dingle, things won't have changed much.....
