Listen Before Transmitting on 7090 kHz - Possible Earthquake Traffic
This morning Honduras had a 7.1 magnitude earthquake with several strong aftershocks. According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake was centered 125 km (75 miles) NNE of La Ceiba, Honduras. The USGS site reports that one person was killed at La Lima and several buildings were damaged or destroyed in Honduras and Belize. The quake was felt widely throughout Honduras. It was also felt in Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico and Nicaragua.
According to initial reports from Dr. Cesar Pio Santos, HR2P, IARU Region 2 Emergency Coordinator, there was no major damage, and there is not (as yet) any regional amateur radio activity relating to the quake. However, he has asked that all amateurs "give preference to emergency traffic if you find it on our bands, especially around 7.090 MHz."
