[SOC] Question on Extra Exam

Tom,

As an extra class ham and an soc, I'm gonna be up front with you: give up all hope of ever understanding that stuff - memorize, memorize, memorize, memorize, memorize .. . . . .
That is how I got my extra ticket (coming from having no license) during the summer between my Junior and senior year in high school. Remember, you don't actually have to understand the stuff, you just have to remember which answers are correct for the test.

Seriously, there is some really high level stuff in that ARRL extra book, and it takes more than just average effort to understand it. If you really do want to take a stab at doing it the hard way, I recommend the extra class license exam study book by Gordon West (I don't know what the exact title is). His approach is to go through each question individually and explain each one, why the correct answer is correct. That approach might be a bit easier than trying to understand all the theory first, and then looking at the questions.

As far as actually comprehending the stuff - that is why I am now pursuing a degree in electrical engineering.

Good luck and good memorization,
Tom, KX3TL

Hoping it doesn't get me kicked of SOC, I am studying for the Extra
exam. I am having a real problem understanding section E5 of the question
pool (so I guess I can stay as a SOC, after all). This the section called
"Electrical Principles" and it deals with resonance, phases,
inductors,
capacitors and all sorts of nasty stuff. And the graphs?? They make
absolutely no sense to me!

I'm using the ARRL "Extra Class License Manual" to study and
it seem
like a pretty good book, but I just don't get this section. Can anyone
here
point me to a resource that may be more simplistically written and oriented
to a SOC, type like myself.

Thanks for any info you might provide.

Tom
