Are you still logging with a pencil? Maybe not, unless you really enjoy
deciphering illegible handwriting.
For most of my "HAM Career", I have relied upon the pencil and paper for
logging, and it has been adequate. In the past, my activity on HF has
been sporadic and limited mostly to "Rag Chew" with long-time
acquaintances. Unlike the really "Old Days", logging is not essential .
. . so after a few days, the paper log gets discarded anyway.
During a contest, time is too precious for pencil logging and associated
"DUPE CHECK". After considering the myriad of modern contest
enhancements, and selecting one of over 100 different logging software
choices, I'd suggest that SOC members simplify and standardize the
programming of half of their keyboard function keys (F7-F12) with "AGN".
Over time, neither my typing nor my eye-sight has improved. I have found
this technique useful, and it could also work for you too. Suggest this
idea to your friends and to your Elmer, and then watch their faces light
up! (Again and Again)
