Mike,

    I did some time back in the '70's in Agony, errrrr I mean Albany in 
Uncle Sam's Canoe Club working on RA-5C Vigilante aircraft. Used to go 
by WR on my sojourns northward whenever I'd go back to MD to visit the 
family.
    Regarding the use of a cricket paddle / bat / stick for smashing 
Palmetto bugs, just do it! Maybe a quick dose of non-stick spray might 
enhance the shedding of bug guts when the action gets hot and heavy and 
you whip yourself into a smashing frenzy!
    Did WR have those APB's on the flight line? (All purpose bugs) that 
popped whenever you stepped on them? We had shi*loads of them down in 
Albany which made for lots of unique ways to spend time during a long 
ramp watch at night.
