Hang about guys - Living here in the McLaren Wine District of South
Australia I can give you the tip that all the BEST wine now comes in
screw caps (called stelvin caps here, cos we invented them!!) There
are a few wineries still holding onto the cork, but apart from the
sparkly wines, it's all Stelvin. It started when Portugal and Spain
sent us a bum batch of cork which oxidated the wines. Apparently Oz was
down on the list of who to send the best cork to, way down the list from
France and Italy and Germany etc. So, we said - in true Ozzy fashion -
Stuff you, we'll do it ourselves! The moral of the story is that wines
in Stelvin caps don't age anywhere near as fast as corked wines, so you
can drink you Semillon/Sauvignon blanc 2005 and it will be as fresh as
your 2009! So, Ban the cork and drink only the Best Ozzy Wine In the
Stelvin Cap. And thereby have a Very Happy Christmas and a peaceful,
prosperous new year. I will - just got meself a Squid Pole and an
HB-1A. BLISS.
