I agree, when starting out start with about 3/16 inch spacing as you
develop both familiarity and coordination, you might find you would
like to "close the gap".

Even though I send with very close spacing myself, when I slow way
down - like to 5 wpm or so, I increase the gap greatly as it helps
slow me down and it seems easier to send slower with a greater gap.
