A "Virtual Airline" is an imaginary organization, usually caterering to
certain aircraft types. In this instance only the Douglas DC-3 and DC-4.
You are assigned a pilot number and "fly" charters and flights emulating
actual scheduled and non-scheduled flights taken by passenger carryuing
airlines schedules of yesteryear such as Delta, Southern, Ozark, Eastern,
etc. Also cargo flights taken by outfits flying nothing but some sort of
cargo. You report your flight time for the legs flown and they are logged
at the Organization's web site.
You are welocme to goto: www.dc3airways.com and peruse the webiste and you
will get an idea of what is going on.
Flights can be flown on the Microsoft flight simulator (sim") program.
FS-2004 and FSX are currently being used. Some people fly with a minimum of
controllers (joy stick only) but most are flying with a flight yoke, a set
of rudder/brake pedals and some with a "throttle quadrant" giving individual
controls for throttle, prop pitch and fuel mixture for each of the two
engines of a twin engined aircraft. (DC-3 in this case.)
The flights can be flown "solo" with only computer generated air "traffic",
or they can be flown online with other players, who can communicate with
each other a voice link as if they were using radio. You can fly in
formation if desired and see the other player's aircraft as well.
A lot of things are explained on the website noted above you may find
interesting if you like airplanes.
73 to all,
Sandy Blaize W5TVW
Senior President's pilot, DCA-1037
99% of time flying the DC-3 only.
