Anything that goes unused for a long time will suffer from three problems:

1.  It will be very hard to start

2.  It will work fitfully if at all

3.  The owner will have forgotten how to use it anyway so #'s 1 and 2 
probably won't matter

At least that's my explanation and I'm sticking with it.  Even kids have 
common sense ... I have no idea where it goes later in life for some.
