I know you aren't likely to believe me, but I'm not making this up. 27
Sep really IS National "Ask A Stupid Question Day." It's been around
for 20 years, invented by some teachers as a way to get kids to go ahead
and ask their questions. It appears that some adults are much better at
it than kids, however. Some examples gleaned from National and State
Parks Rangers:
Niagara Falls:
"Where can I buy a ticket for the barrel ride?"
Grand Canyon:
"Exactly why did you guys put it here?"
"What year did they build this?"
"Is the mule train air conditioned?"
"Are there dining cars on the mule train?"
"I bought a ticket for the elevator to the bottom. Where
is it?"
Denali Natl Park:
"Can you show me where the yeti lives?"
"How much does Mt. McKinley weigh?"
Watson Lake [VY1 land]:
"What time do the bears show up?"
"What time do y'all turn on the Northern Lights?"
Everglades:
"What time does the 2 o'clock bus leave?"
"Where are all the rides?"
Mesa Verde:
"Do you know of any undiscovered ruins here?"
"Why did they build the ruins so close to the road?"
Yellowstone:
"How do you turn it [Old Faithful] on?"
"We had no trouble finding the park entrances, but
where are the exits?"
"Can we eat these [holding a handful of moose droppings
that look like Milk Duds]?"
Carlsbad Caverns:
"How many ping pong balls would it take to fill it up?"
"How much of the cave is underground?"
and two personal favorites from our daughter who lived on Maui for 6 1/2
years and worked in restaurants we can't afford to eat in:
Haleakela:
[pointing at the ocean from the summit] "OK, if that's
the Pacific Ocean, [then pointing the other way] what
ocean is that one?"
More than one customer she served:
"Do you live here?"
