Not often known, but it is also the reason Australian soldiers refer to
one another as "digger". Partially due to our gold rush years and
partially to digging trenches during WW1.

Myself also Fred. My Dad of course could do 60 wpm but then again he was
an old time naval telegraphist from the olden day mould of WW1 when that
was the leading edge of communication.
