I ordered 40 PL-259's 3 months ago from RadioWorks and have already used
half of them. Not Amphenol, but silver plated and teflon insulation.
So much for a lifetime supply.....
The last PL-259's I purchased from RS were not plated with anything - just
bare steel - and would not take solder. And the plastic insultion melted.
And the last RS RG-58 coax had less than 50% braid coverage, kinda like
looking through chicken fence. I was able to order a 2000 foot roll of 4
strand guy wire from them when I erected my 80m 4sq array. Unfortunately
that RS store has gone out of business and I don't know of any others that
will actually take a special order.
I have signed on for Clipperton2008 in March, and am in the process of
building/acquiring antennas for 30m and down. We seem to have a problem: so
many people have signed up we may have to use a bigger boat <grin>. Not all
of the people that have signed up are amateur radio operators (French
citizens, and FO0 is France) and to further complicate things, we know that
not everyone that has signed up will actually make the trip.
