[SOC] The essence of SOCratic thought

 The Socratic method is a negative method of hypothesis elimination, in that
 better hypotheses are found by steadily identifying and eliminating those
 which lead to contradictions.

The modern SOCratic method is to steadily make every possible mistake,
eliminating them one at a time until an acceptable result is reached by
unsuccessful approximation.  Note that one's standard of "acceptable"
diminishes with each attempt until actual result and acceptable result
converge.
