Having the 9 year old twins [girls] for dinner this evening [it's around 7:00+
p.m. locally] and of course, as usual, stimulating their grey cells Carolyn and
I conducted a spelling bee to entertain them. Only grand-parents can inflict
this kind of torture in lieu of trash television.

We threw quite a few complicated words at them and they performed well within
expectations given their age and the fact they weren't going down easy street
such as "the dog sat on the mat" stuff. We hurled words like:

Paramour
Pirouette

etc. etc. All along I tried to remember a "big word" I learnt around 1950 when I
was about one year younger than them now. As a flash of inspiration ["Olliver
Sudden - and I'm 64] it came to me in a blinding light.

BECAUSE

I immediately set the twins to the task. Within seconds it was written down
correctly. I couldn't believe the ease they did it.

How did you know that?

B - Babies
E - Eat
C - Custard
A - And
U - Uncles
S - Sell
E - Eggs

The new way of teaching, I need to go and have a good lie down........

It's hard being redundant.
