[SOC] Our northern neighbor responds

Far be it from me, the old cynic, to suggest that accepting aid from other
countries does nothing to improve America's image of itself as 'The Super
Power'.

Every now and then a bit of humility goes a long way...

Once again, America can do nothing right !!!

When the tsunamis hit earlier this year, we were condemned for not giving
enough, early enough- even though we ended up giving one of the largest
amounts of aid offered.

Now we're being condemned for not accepting enough. Before you condemn,
please consider the scope of the disaster and the sheer magnitude of the
effort needed to be done to remedy it. I am not saying that we do not need
outside help; but maybe, just maybe once FEMA and the Red Cross and
Salvation Army and other organizations figure out the best way to handle
things - then we will accept what is needed to get the job done.

As a low level player in our local Office of Emergency Management; I can
only express personal confidence that FEMA will get the job done. It's not
as easy as it seems. There are many details behind the scenes that you
can't even begin to think of or even imagine, for that matter! Let the
professionals do their jobs - knee jerk reactions as a result of not enough
knowledge of the situation help no one.
