Very odd watching President Bush's coronation from this side of the pond.

No political point here...

but the equivalent ceremony in the UK consists of the new (or old) Prime
Minister being filmed climbing out of a black Jaguar, late at night,
outside No.10 Downing Street, walking up to a hastily-erected podium, well
festooned in microphones, and then delivering a 'speech' of no more than 60
seconds duration.

He is then expected to say 'thank you', go inside No.10 and get on with it.

Should we 'crown' an elected public official, or are we missing something?
