Yes Hank. Mr. Toohey's brewery is alive and well down under. One of the two
principal breweries existing in Australia. What's the movie?
Personally I hate Tooheys New. I hate any of Mr. Tooheys original products -
but then again others love it.
Tooheys Old is another matter but it was never a Mr. Tooheys invention. He died
yonks ago and his company later took over a brewery just north of me here.
About 20+ years ago when we holidayed a bit further north, the first thing I'd
do was buy a schooner of the "Old" beer. I can't remember the original name for
the moment but the standard two jokes about it were:
a) It was served with a knife and fork. - [It was dark black and tasted as
smooth as velvet. Quite thick, brewed the old way, added kilo's to your weight
and about three schooners in an hour had you talking in braille.]
b) It was originally brewed to wash the coal dust out of the miners. - [That's
been the local industry in this neck of the woods apart from power generation
and tourism.]
