[SOC] SOC Marathon Sprint

Hi Bob,

The changeover from cable ISP to DSL ISP is progressing slowly. I now
receive via both, but sending depends on which is connected at the moment.
The qsl.net relay still sends to the old address and complete changeover
will await that revision. In meantime, I am receiving. This account is the
DSL account, but reply address shows k4ksr at qsl.net.

Two thoughts on contest announcement.

Should there not be a 10% decrement applied randomly to some scores, in
keeping with major contest practices?

On a more serious note, it would be neato for the RECEIVING station to apply
power multiplier (or some equivalent award) appropriate to each QSO, at
least when verified by the checklog. More trouble to process, I know. The
basic idea is to reward those with good ears and those who make the effort
to dig out weak stations.

Which brings me to a related point. I won't put in more than token time,
but would love to see the power multiplier applied to each QSO because that
would encourage me to call at 100 mW and increase power only if needed.
I've tried several of these QRP sprints this way and found myself
immediately frustrated to point of just going to 5 watts in order to make
enough Qs in a low density environment. The most fun I've had with 500 mW
is sending that power in the ARCI contests because it evokes a lot of nice
comments and there are typically enough stations to work at that power.

All food for thought, but adds complexity for the guy administering the
event.

72,
Bill C
