[SOC] Globble Worming (and Amsterdam)

Dear Jan/group

Well, actually, "intermarrying with Englishmen" is not really mixing races.
There is a lot of Dutch blood in the English. If you look at a crowd of
Engliish and a crowd of Dutch...we are identical, whereas an Englishman
stands out like a sore thumb among a crowd of, say, French, Danes or
Germans.

The English language in its most ancient form originated in the Fresian
Islands, off the coast of Holland.

The English are generally cynical about mainland europeans, but we have
always had a soft spot for the Dutch. I have personally never met a bad
one.

There are no offensive Dutch jokes in English, and they are made as welcome
here as we feel there.

If someone was to offer me a huge amount of money, on condition that I never
set foot in Britain again, I would serve my exile happily in a nice little
town called Haarlem, half-way between Amsterdam and the seaside at
Zandvoort.

The English mix well with the Dutch. Although we speak English, we are
Europeans - not imitation yanks, but of course we feel more at home with
some Europeans than others. It just happens that the Dutch are the closest
to us in their manner, attitudes, politics and morals.

Now...will someone offer me a lot of money :-)....

Chris G4PDJ
