[SOC] Ambassadors' letter to Blair (???)

Well, Iraq (like the UK and - ironically - Yugoslavia) always has been a
pivotal place in history.

Are you aware that during WW2 (just before the start of operation
'Barbarossa'), the new, pro-German ruler of Iraq desperately appealed to
Adolf Hitler for massive military aid to throw the British out of his
country?.

Hitler's token response was pathetic...just a few antiquated aircraft.

Despite desperate pleadings from his senior Generals to 'sieze the moment',
Hitler (in his 'wisdom'), therefore missed-out on the chance to cut the old
British empire in half, and separate Britain from most of its material
resources. A blow from which Britain would never have recovered, and (as
Churchill himself later indicated in his memoirs) would have probably
resulted in certain victory for the Axis, whether the USA entered the war or
not*.

Let's hope for the best - or make the most of a bad lot - according to your
viewpoint.
