I know some are irritated with political stuff on the reflector, so if you
don't want any of that, please delete this.
Tonight I was perusing the California Official Voter Information Guide.
Published by the California Secretary of State and mailed to every voter,
the guide contains statements in spaces paid for by any candidate who chose
to limit campaign expenditures to no more than $10,624,000.
Nineteen of the 135 candidates didn't agree to that limit for their
expenditures, so their statements can't be in the Guide. Some others
didn't pay for publication of their statements. But of those who did,
believe me, there's more than just one hoot after another. My favorite so
far is the statement of Trek Thunder Kelly (www.trekkelly.com) of Venice,
California, an Independent candidate:
"Dear Voters, Please vote for me, thus breaking the Seventh Seal and
incurring Armageddon. I will legalize drugs, gambling, and prostitution so
they may be taxed and regulated, the funds derived would subsidize the
deficit, education, and the environment. I believe in peaceful resolutions
backed by a strong military; I don't care who you marry or have sex with."
If I thought that guy could win, I might even vote for him. Or, hey... is
"Trek Thunder" maybe a girl's name?
I need to read 'em all, as there might be even more winners. Do let me
know if you'd rather not see anything else on this topic, which is
beginning to churn the stomachs of even the strongest Californians.
For any gluttons for election humor, I have a small (10K or so) jpeg which
I'll email to you if you wish. Email me with the subject "endorsement
jpeg" and I'll send it to you.
It's been an interesting day. Found out I *don't* have viral hepatitis.
Not easy to wipe off the smile.
