[SOC] How big is TOO big? (Who says size doesn't matter?)

Okay, now that I've pretty much given up on the idea of sending my rather
VERBOSE message, I have to ask HOW BIG IS TOO BIG?  The darn server says my
message is too big.  Something is amiss, methinks.
