Hi All,

I don't know how much of this has made it out of these shores but the
administration, in its wisdom, has decided that it'd be a good thing if
people applying for Bristish citizenship should know a bit about the history
and culture of these isles.

A quiz has been suggested and predictably it concerned such things as, "How
many wives did Henry VIII have and what were their names?". "When was
Britain last invaded?" and such.

Todays Times offers alternative questions in the letters column:

"Why don't we have mixer taps (faucets) in the bathroom?"

"You walk full tilt into somebody on the street and knock them to the floor.
They apologise to you. Explain."

"Were Morecambe and Wise ever really funny?" (They were..)

"Which is the greater moral outrage: sitting in the middle lane of the
motorway (freeway), or not letting somebody out at a junction?"

"With whom would you rather spend time: A South African, an American or a
Frenchman?. Explain your answer."

"Explain the culltural fascination with the Christmas No.1 record."

To these, I'd add:

"List the ten ways you might be adjudged 'out' in cricket"

and

"What's the fascination in the Eurovision song contest?" (Answer: Wogan)

Paul ;-)
