Well eucalypts "are" pyro-something [can't remember the exact word]. They have
evolved over millions of years to "attract" fire by exuding oil in vapour form
as they heat up, hence exploding.

Eucalypts [and most Australian trees] are incapable of reproduction without
fire.

The most puzzling aspect of that photo was the fact trees appeared unaffected.
Insufficient pre-heating?
