Hi All,
This lunchtime at about 1245Z I watched Concorde 216 come into view low over
Filton in North Bristol accompanied in the sky by a single Spitfire. They
passed by with the the unmistakeable sounds of Rolls Royce engines from two
very different eras.
Concorde went on to do a circuit of Bristol before touching down just after
1300Z. The Spit went on for some minutes doing some aerobatics.
There were thousands of people in and around Filton (about 30,000 I
believe). The main A38 highway which passes the Eastern end of the
aerodrome was closed to accomodate spectators. It was a great carnival
atmosphere.
I dont want to debate the merits or otherwise of supersonic passenger
travel; it's all rather acedemic now anyway...
It was a beautiful sight to see her home.
