Actually, the Ashes trophy is a bit SOC anyway. ;-)

They originally didn't exist at all.  The story is that England (a team that
can be made up from players from anywhere in the UK - SOC in itself) got a
drubbing from Australia one time and an 'obiturary' was written as an ironic
report of the poor quality of the English game, which ended with the
statement something like "the ashes will be returned home on Thursday".

Then, when the series of test matches between England and Australia became
known as the "Ashes Series" a pair of bails (the two small round pieces of
wood which sit on top of the three stumps) were burnt and the Ashes were put
in an Urn.

Every so often there's an arguement, a bit like the one over the Americas
Cup, about whether the Ashes should go to Australia (physically) rather than
stay in the UK.

Which always strikes me as SOC that the winners would want a symbol of the
failure of a side so many years ago.
