Pretty basic Hank, these were "one day matches".

Two teams, each comprising 11 players.

A toss of a coin determines who "bats" first.

Each team faces 50 "overs" of  6 balls. A bowler bowls his 6 balls from one end
and the next bowler does the same from the opposite end.

Thus each team faces 300 balls unless 10 players batting are out beforehand.

Theoretically the first two batsmen to commence can remain there for the entire
300 balls.

The team with the highest score wins.

Pretty basic.

Quite often the game is decided on the very last ball. Nail biting stuff.
