Well I was trying to decide if I wanted to fess up to my latest second class
feat or not, but they say confession is good for the soul so here goes.
Yesterday My Brother who runs a welding and metal- work shop offered to brew
up a gin pole for me. We proceeded to make the clamps, hinge and set screw
pole holders up. In two vises we had each half of the clamp assembly one was
just welded and hot as hell, guess which one I grabbed without gloves, youch
I threw the damn thing in a nearby mud puddle and it sizzled for a long
time. Anyway all worked out as now have a excellent gin pole and due to the
fact of having a heavily calloused hand I only ended up with two tiny
blisters and a bunch of seared skin. I have to say for the retail price tag
of $300 plus bux for these two fittings for a gin pole some of the
commercial guys are making big money . My total cost for this project was
around $15 in materials and about a hours labor time. Total cost of lesson
learned that metal is hot as hell even if it looks cold = priceless.
