I remember Greenham. That's where I experienced the second loudest noise I
have ever heard: Two Luftwaffe Starfighters (widowmakers) flying down the
runway at 550 knots with afterburners (reheat) on. They were past and gone
before the noise assaulted us. Wonderful.
The *loudest* noise was at Biggin Hill airshow (I used to live about 5 miles
away). This was an English Electric Lightning (single seat jet fighter)
which flew along the runway at about 50 feet and then stood on its tail
accelerating in a vertical climb. Again with reheat. Awesome.
And has anybody watched a Vulcan doing low-level passes? Beats Concorde. No
Vulcans flying now sadly.
I *like* aeroplanes...
