On a conciliatory note, I understand that the US has some really superb
'Micro breweries' that put the mass producers to shame. I should also admit
that the large brewery chains in the UK purvey some of the most horrible,
pasteurised, carbonated crap that you might have the misfortune to
encounter.
If you want to explore English beer, PLEASE take advice from a local A good
rule of thumb is only to drink a pint that's 'pulled' from a beer engine or
poured directly from the barrel into the glass. Don't necessarily be put off
if it's a little cloudy; it's a live beer with yeast growing in it.
Sometimes a beer will 'throw a haze' which is normally starch, I think and
in no way affects its flavour. If it smells of vinegar, reject immediately.
