Paul,

DON'T DO IT! From what I remember from my time in both CA and the UK, the
taxes in SoCal are even worse than the UK and the gov't services aren't near
as good in SoCal as they are in the UK. (Except for, perhaps, the BBC!
British TV nearly drove me crazy... thank goodness for the pubs!)

Sorry guys... I couldn't resist!

<Shields UP!>

Well, I've visited the USA just once about four years ago.

We attended a computery type show in LA and then headed South. I have to say
that I found LA to be one of the most obnoxious places I have ever visited.
It's a smelly tatty town. I'm grateful for the award that we received from
the 'Academy' however.

My colleague John had friends in Del Mar which is a few miles North of San
Diego and very close to La Jolla. Driving south from LA was a wonderful
experience. We drove from an urban sprawl and as we got away from LA the
country became green and lush. The Pacific came into view and palm trees
became abundant.

If we were to move from the UK then Southern California would be my choice.

Best,

Paul :-)
