You be as pragmatic as you like.  You armed him, you funded him against the
Iranians, you gave him the weapons of mass destructions, so why try to
pretend this is about his wants and needs.

Think of it like this....

In the USA anyone can own a gun, so why be suprised when people get killed
by people, people with guns?
