The postman just dropped off two of my latest e-bay winnings a heath hw-7
and hw-8. I just finished playing around with the two rigs and offer these
findings
the hw-7 while not quite as hot a receiver as the 8 series has a added bonus
by carefully tweaking the pre-selector you not only can carry on a qso but
listen to VOA or BBC and get the latest news at the same time. Also further
tweaking will allow you to monitor the children's band channel 19 and get
the latest smokey reports as well.
The HW-8 has a much better receiver but slightly less power output, I was
only able to get a slight bit of BCI on 20 meters with my yagi pointed south
of here.
All in all these are going to be fun rigs to play around with and I am now
waiting delivery of the HW-9 I also just won. Now if I can get some ambition
up and get in the attic here and find that darn old 6L6 xtal controlled
transmitter and the 6SN7 reg rcvr I built 36 years ago for my novice rig I
can really go back in time.
Its funny I have a station setup here that is capable of running the legal
limit and I find nothing is as much fun as running under a watt of power
with a rough receiver and carry on a ragchew. Hope to catch some of you guys
and gals on the radio soon.
