Yeah, gum trees. They didn't in this case, it was pine plantations. They're
gone. Gum's would recover and in fact propagate seed.

Twelve more suburbs north of Canberra are placed on "high risk alert" today.
Ditto high country in north eastern Victoria. Alpine villages, who would have
imagined.

Irony of ironies - rain when it comes will cause huge problems. Gentle rain
would be fine, heavy rain will wash ash and silt into reservoirs for drinking
water.

A few of us are wondering, are these freaky weather conditions at work? If so,
what's in store for the northern hemisphere this coming summer.
