Strange, I searched Google and couldn't find one photo. Here's a rough
description"
"Xanthorea: It is no longer politically correct to call this plant a Black Boy,
with the term "Grass tree" now commonly used. These tree/shrubs grow only an
inch a year and the big ones are the wise old men of the forest".
You can buy them at garden nurseries for around $A100.00 each but they don't do
well in household gardens unless you regularly attack them with a propane torch
every two years. Thousands of them nearby and of course at my brother-in-law's,
take them from the bush illegally and the gummint will cut you off at the
knees.
One's available commercially have a licence from "Parks and Wildlife" attached
with a number. A hefty licence fee has been paid for it. Money raised in this
way aids ongoing conservation.
Big one's as tall as a man would be older than any living person. After a bush
fire they regenerate and newer ones appear nearby. That's how the Australian
bush works. Aborigine's worked that idea out 40,000 years ago. It took "white
man" scientists until 1969 to reach the same conclusion and many consider
Aborigine's backwards!!!!.
