Hi Paul,

It does look interesting, as do some of the other ideas on that site. I
don't have experience with this one, but have some general comments.

1. There is a huge difference between making an antenna resonate and making
it radiate efficiently.

2. When the wavelength of an antenna drops to 0.1 wavelength or less, the
radiation resistance drops like a stone and the antennas become terribly
inefficient. The very best mobile antennas are really never very good, but
they do work - especially if you pump 100 watt into them. Balcony antennas
are usually closely related, so I would expect similar results. This is the
basis for my preference for antennas _at least_ 0.15 wavelengths. But
understand this is a personal preference and balcony antenna experimentation
is almost a subhobby in itself.

3. Sooner or later, you will be concerned with the vertical radiation
angle. Low is good, and that takes some specific care. Don't sweat it too
much in short run, but include that feature in your reading.

4. Also sooner or later, you will find you want to do some experimentation
with antennas. Whether or not it becomes a serious venture depends on you.
But trying several antenna types is pretty normal. So, my best
recomendation is to think in terms of doing both the inverted vee and the
balcony antenna. they both appear simple. The balcony antenna will need a
counterpoise or ground radials that the balcony was providing. Your results
won't be the same.

By all means get comments from as many sources as possible.

Cheers,
Bill C
