Before we finally get off the Canada Dry and associated thread.

Allow me to impart an amusing [to us] story.

Back when Saddaam was originally invading Kuwait - Caz, her sister, my sister
and myself were visiting Los Angeles.

For them it was the first time, for me -yawn. Anyhoo, this night in August 1990
[I think] we went to this comedy club somewhere near Disneyland / Universal
Studios.

Absolute top night.

Except my wife [Caz] always drinks a "Brandy, Lime and Dry".

Every drink was pure sh**, successive managers arrived when I bounced back the
drink, it went on endlessly until the "head man" arrived to enquire about the
problem. He "personally" prepared the next drink.

It was sh**

In a moment of "brilliance" I asked to see how they were preparing the drink.

Glass

Ice

Brandy

Lime

[everything's cool up until this point]

Then he grabs a "vermouth" bottle...

Who.... what's that sh**.

Sir, you asked for a "Brandy, Lime and Dry".

"This is dry vermouth, you Australians have peculiar tastes but we cater to
all".

After some brief discussion, we all concluded that an Australian's version of
"dry' meant Canada Dry and for the rest of the evening our money wasn't any
good.

We had an absolute ball... the hospitality killed us. The story rippled
throughout the comedy club, later comedians picked up on it and we became
unwitting and unwilling objects of attention.

As I said, we were literally killed by hospitality. For me, not the first time
my money was no good.

OK, just minute trivia... not earthshaking news, an instance of difference in
expressions.
