Before I answer your question I own firearms.  I keep them at my home QTH
unless I am going to the firing range.  I live in a city (Oakland, CA) where
there is a rather high violent crime rate with, inter alia, way too damn
many adolesecent males, and even females, feeling that owning and carrying
(illegally I might add) a handgun is a rite of passage.  I also lived in the
boonies where I hunted and had too, inter alia, deal with with wild boar.

The current judicial interpertation of the Second Amendment to the US
Constitution, eg, right "to bear arms", is that such Amendment does not
protect the
right of an individual to possess firearms rather being
a collective right of the State of maintain militias.
I have no problem with that because stricter firearms regulations are not,
at this time, politically possible in the US at either the state or
federallevel.

Someone else has posted on the general categories of those debarred from
owing or possessing firearms and I shant repeat it.
