Trouble is, most of the deaths from these weapons seem to be other family
members accidentally killed by members of their own family. Youngsters
getting hold of them, or domestic violence cases. In fact, it seems more
likely that your self-defence weapon will kill you at the hands of one of
your own family.

Oh, and what is the self defence option of owning an operational
anti-aircraft gun? Are you going to be able to get to it before the burglar
clubs you on your way out to the back yard?

Wasn't that ammendment penned in the days when 'serfs' could not wear
swords? And wasn't it a reaction against not being able to wear a sword
(or, bear arms, if you prefer) rather than being able to have a
semi-automatic armour piercing rifle with telescopic sights?

Oh, and the House of Commons in the UK still require Members of Parliament
to hang their swords up before entering the chamber, which is spaced so as
the distance between opposite benches allows for sword lengths. However,
that's not taken as an excuse for MPs in 2003 to be allowed to carry a
sword. Though one did swing the Mace recently.
